MAURICE — A Maurice police officer involved in a fatal crash more than three years ago has been found not guilty of negligent homicide.
Judge Michelle Breaux issued a not guilty verdict for Willis Thomas Monday afternoon. The trial had no jury, with only Breaux hearing the case.

MAURICE — Voters in the Village of Maurice have passed the rededication of the 1975 sales tax.
On Saturday, 214 voted yes (63 percent) for the proposition; 124 (37 percent) voted no.
There are a total of 14 Vermilion Parish Police Jurors, and only three had opposition in Saturday’s election.
All three sitting police jurors were able to win their seat back.
In Abbeville, Paul Bourgeois Jr. returns for his second term as police juror. He beat Darrel Hebert 471 votes (67 percent) to 236 votes (33 percent).
