MERTON SOILEAU

MAMOU - Funeral services were held for Merton Soileau, 79, of Mamou, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 7. Burial followed in the New St. Ann’s Cemetery.

A retired merchant, Mr. Soileau died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at his residence. He also worked with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office as a deputy.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Soileau and Phyllis Soileau, both of Mamou; one brother, Percy Soileau of Ville Platte; and one brother-in-law, Warren Beaugh of Opelousas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Aderase and Florence Soileau; his wife, Merline B. Soileau and three brothers, Alton, Allen and Donald Soileau.

Father Bob Courville officiated.

CURTIS ORTEGO

May 19, 1950 - May 5, 2008

A memorial service will be held for Curtis Ortego, 57, of Ville Platte, at First Baptist Church in Ville Platte at a later date.

Mr. Ortego died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ville Platte following a long illness.

Survivors include his mother and step-dad, LeBell and Joe Bourque of Ville Platte; his wife, Dianna Stanford Ortego of Ville Platte; two sons, Kurt Ortego of Turkey Creek and Shawn Ortego and his wife, Toni, of St. Landry; two daughters, Michelle Ortego of Oklahoma and Kayla Paul of Oakdale; one sister, Barbara Watts and her husband, Chris, of Gonzales; a cousin who has been like a sister to him, Rita Dardeau and her husband, Dale, of Ville Platte; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cursey Ortego.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Greg Ardoin, Ville Platte Medical Center, Heritage Manor and hospice for their wonderful care.

Brother Kevin West will officiate.

ALBERTA ADAMS

May 6, 1955 - May 4, 2008

Funeral services will be held for Alberta Adams, 52, of Ville Platte, at the Williams Funeral Chapel in Ville Platte at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 10. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Ms. Adams died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice.

Survivors include two brothers, Otis and Eurick Adams, both of Ville Platte; her best friend, Rudolph Skinner of Eunice; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roosevelt and Beatrice Adams.

Rev. Leroy Jack Jr. will officiate.

Williams Funeral Home of Ville Platte will be in charge of arrangements.

JOSEPH FREDDY LAFLEUR SR.

November 15, 1950 - May 7, 2008

Funeral services will be held for Joseph Freddy Lafleur Sr., 57, of Ville Platte, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 3:30 p.m., today, May 8. Burial will follow in the Evangeline Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Lafleur died at 4:35 a.m., Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at his residence following a long illness. He was the owner of Freddie’s Bar and Lafleur’s Frame and Body Shop in Ville Platte.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Lafleur of Ville Platte; four sons, Chad Lafleur of St. Martinville, Peter Lafleur of Baton Rouge and Josh Lafleur and David Lafleur, both of Ville Platte; two daughters, Megan Lafleur of Ville Platte and Denise Roberts of Livingston; one brother, Jeffery Lafleur of Texas; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ezuare and Pete Lafleur; one daughter, Daiquiri Guy; and one sister, Labertha Lafleur.

Father Gene Tremie will officiate.
