NV’s Vidallier named All-Parish MVP

The North Vermilion Lady Patriots finished their season in the semi-finals of the Fastpitch 56 State Championship Tournament.
One of the main reasons they were able to make a run that deep into the playoffs is Hannah Vidallier.
Based on her solid play, all season long, Vidallier was named the 2014 All-Parish Most Valuable Player.
“This is really exciteing,” Vidallier said. “I’m not even sure what to say. I am so happy to have won this award, but it was kind of a team effort. The only reason I was able to perform the way I did was because of my teammates.
“Also, it just feels good to have all my hard work and determination get rewarded.”
Vidallier said that coming into this season she knew she had a pretty special team, and because of that it added a little extra pressure to herself.
“I always put pressure on myself, but this year I added even more,” Vidallier said. “I knew that heading into the start of the season I had to be better. So I spent more time working on my pitching, and I spent more time in the batting cage. I think it paid off.”
Her coach, Richard Prejean, also noticed the hard work and only had good things to say about Vidallier.
“This is exciting that she won the MVP,” Prejean said. “She ahs been very consistent for us all season long, and anytime you have someone playing as consistent as she did, it helps your team win a bunch of games.”
Vidallier led the Lady Patriots in both the batters box, and in the pitchers mound.
In the pitchers circle, Vidallier ate up a lot of the innings for North Vermilion.
Vidallier pitched in 119.2 of the Lady Patriots 182.1 innings. That’s more than two thirds of the innings the Lady Patriots played.
“That’s the thing about Hannah, she just goes out there and does what you ask her to do, and she does it with no questions asked,” Prejean said. “She may not call herself a pitcher, but that’s what we really needed her to be this year and she stepped up and did just that for us.”
Vidallier was 15-6 on the season.
She also sported a 1.62 earned run average on the season.
Along with leading her team as a pitcher, Vidallier also lead her team in the batters box as well.
Vidallier led the team with a .482 batting average on the season.
Along with leading in batting average, she was also second on the team in RBIs with only 27, only one behind Miranda Martin who is also on the first team All-Parish softball team.
Vidallier was also third in hits with 41 hits. The sister combination of Elise and Adele Vincent were the only two Lady Patriots to have more hits than Vidallier.
“I made sure that I worked as hard as I could everyday,” Vidallier said. “I wanted to be better from last season, not only as a player, but as a team, and I think we were able to do that.”
In the three years that Vidallier has been at North Vermilion this past season is the furthest the Lady Patriots have advanced into the playoffs.
“It was exciting to make it to the semifinals of the playoffs,” Vidallier said. “We had never made it that far while I was here, and it was exciting to be apart of something like that.
“Now, our run in the playoffs didn’t end the way we wanted to, but I think that just gives us a little extra juice for next season.”
With this past season being coach Prejean’s last season as head coach of the Lady Patriots, he feels confident the team will be in a good spot next year because of the leadership of Vidallier.
“I think that she stepped up in a big way this season, and not only with her play,” Prejean said. “She matured, and became a leader on this team. Not in the vocal sense, but in the sense that she was always working so hard, and constantly trying to get better and better, and something like that rubs off on everyone in the locker room.”
Vidallier knows that she has one more season left playing high school softball, and she is going to give it everything she has next year.
It’s that determination and drive is that won her the All-Parish MVP this season, and will make the Lady Patriots a tough team to beat next season.
