Week 8 high school football review
Week 8 of the high school football season brought teams one step closer to their faith of either missing the playoffs, or getting the opportunity to win a state championship.
The Vermilion Catholic Eagles extended their winning streak to seven games with a 22-20 victory over the Eunice Bobcats. Their was a controversial call in the game on what was thought to be a fumble by the Eagles with 1:20 remaining in the game.
The Bobcat defender picked up the fumble and scored, but the runner was ruled down by contact before the ball came loose, thus sealing the victory for VC.
The Abbeville Wildcats ran into the Notre Dame Pioneers, and were defeated 57-0.
Notre Dame has outscored their opponents 156-0 in a three-game stretch.
Abbeville running back Buck Morris led the rushing attack with 57 yards on 11 attempts.
The North Vermilion Patriots earned their third win of the season with a 34-8 win over winless St. Mary.
The Patriot offense racked up 313 yards.
Taylor Abshire rushed for 103 yards on 19 attempts.
Quarterback Ty Desormeaux threw for 145 yards and three touchdowns.
Seth Patin caught five passes for 156 yards and three scores.
In a battle between two of the top three teams in District 6-3A, the Kaplan Pirates defeated the Erath Bobcats 30-14.
The Pirates rushed for 339 yards, earning their sixth straight victory.
Julius Johnson led the Pirates with 113 yards and two touchdowns on 11 attempts.
The Delcambre Panthers shut out the Jeanerette Tigers 28-0 for their homecoming.
Oliver Nunez led the team with 126 yards.
