Erath’s David Jordan named All-Parish Coach of the Year
Now that all of the All-District teams have been announced, the All-Parish team has been announced the All-Parish Coach of the Year has been announced as well.
This year the All-Parish Coach of the Year is Erath’s David Jordan.
“This is a testament to my players,” Jordan said. “With out all of their hard work, I wouldn’t have been able to win this. I am very honored to be named All-Parish Coach of the Year. It is an honor, but again, this just proves that my kids worked hard.
I had a great group of kids this year, and they did everything I asked. We had a really good season considering the way it started.”
The Erath Bobcats baseball season didn’t get off to the fastest start in the world.
The Bobcats started the season with a 5-9 record.
“Our season didn’t get off to the best start,” Jordan said. “We were able to fight through our tough start. All year long I have just tried to tell the kids to hold on, and keep on fighting.
“They did just that. They fought and fought, and every thing turned around for us.”
Turn around is an understatement.
The Bobcats finished the rest of the season with a 12-2 record.
Over the course of the latter half of the season, the Bobcats won 11 straight games, and were able to split the district 6-3A title with the North Vermilion Patriots.
The run the Bobcats made at the end of the year was good enough to move them from the 33rd ranked team in Class 3A to the 11 ranked team in 3A.
They were able to beat De La Salle in the first round by the score of 6-0.
In the second round the Bobcats lost to Brusly by the final score of 4-3.
“It was tough to end the season like that, but it is a step in the right direction,” Jordan said. “We may not have won the game but we were competitive and that is a step in the right direction.”
Since Jordan came to Erath five years ago the Bobcats have made the playoffs every year, and have made the second round of the playoffs the past four seasons.
Jordan has done nothing but brought consistency to the Erath baseball team.
“The reason we have been constantly successful is because the kids have bought in,” Jordan said. “When you have a group of kids that year in and year out buy into what you are teaching, it makes the coaches job so much easier.
“To go along with that, we have a very disciplined group of kids. They know that come baseball season we are going to work, and work hard. Also, all of the kids have learned that there is a right way and a wrong way to do things, and that makes my job so much easier.”
With Jordan being named the All-Parish Coach of the Year it is a good paring with him being named the Co-Coach of the Year, along with Jeremy Trahan of North Vermilion as the 6-3A Coach of the Year.
