Eagles and 29’ers wrap up American Legion season

The American Legion baseball season has encompassed the entire month of June.
Over the course this past month, the Gulf Coast Bank Abbeville 29’ers and Abbeville Eagles have played roughly 17 games, and it all comes to an end tonight.
The Eagles have used this American Legion schedule to get prepared for next season, since every one that plays for the Eagles is a young member of the Vermilion Catholic baseball team.
“This American Legion schedule gave us a chance to learn some things,” Eagles head coach Steven Adams. “We were able to learn through the course of the game because wins and losses don’t matter because all we want to do is just learn as much as we can.”
For the last game of the season the Eagles will face off against Northside tonight at Sellers field.
The game is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
Unlike the Eagles, the 29’ers are a veteran squad comprised of juniors and seniors and they are here to win baseball games, and that is something they have done a lot of.
“I think we got off to a slow start,” 29’ers head coach Darin Desormeaux said. “At first they didn’t play like a team, but now they are starting to roll as a team and the product on the field is so much better because of it.”
The 29’ers will finish their season on the road as they travel to take on Carencro.
This game just marks the end of the regular season for both teams.
A playoff like tournament is held at the end of every American Legion baseball season, and hopefully both teams will qualify to extend the season by a few precious games.
