29’ers use big inning to beat Comeaux
The Gulf Coast Bank Abbeville 29’ers squared off against Comeaux on Thursday night, and thanks to a big second inning the 29’ers were able to walk away with their third straight victory by the final score of 12-2.
“It feels real nice to be able to get a winning streak going,” 29’ers head coach Darin Desormeaux said. “I told the boys that they (Comeaux) were a worthy opponent, and a group of guys that have been playing baseball for a very long time.
“We put together a nice game. I believe it was a complete game for us tonight. Trey Broussard came out tonight and looked really sharp, then Jace (Harrington) came in and pitched lights out. So with that kind of pitching, the defense playing well and the bats coming alive tonight, I’m ready to play anybody in American Legion.”
In the second inning the 29’ers were able to put up seven runs.
Wes Meaux started the inning off with a single, and a single by Ty Desormeaux had runners on the corners for Dylan Duhon, who one pitch into the at-bat hit a single up the middle to score the games first run.
At the end of the inning the 29’ers were able to score a total of seven runs on four hits, and Comeaux helped them out a bit by committing two errors in the inning.
As coach Desormeaux said earlier Trey Broussard was pitching well.
He pitched four innings, and gave up only two runs on two hits.
He also struck out six batter in his four inning on the mound.
Jace Harrington came in to pitch in relief of Broussard.
Harrington only pitched one inning, but he only allowed one hit and struck out one batter.
“I think one of the biggest things is that these boys are starting to play as a team,” Desormeaux said. “They no longer see themselves as North Vermilion players, VC, Erath or anything else. Now we are the 29’ers and that is starting to show with the product on the field.”
The 29’ers were able to wrap this game up early by scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and they did it with out recording a single hit in the inning.
The Comeaux pitching staff walked two batters, and hit two other batters.
Everything after that was the 29’ers swiping bases.
Drake Broussard, Seth Patin and Charlie Gallusser led the way for the 29’ers at the plate.
Broussard was 2-for-2 with two singles and two runs scored, and he also walked twice.
Patin was 1-for-2 with a single. He also drew a walk and was hit by a pitch. Along with that he scored twice and stole four bases.
Gallusser was 1-for-1 with two walks. He also stole two bases and scored twice as well.
“I really like the direction this team is going,” Desormeaux said. “If we can continue to swing the bats the way we have, we will be sitting pretty.”
