29’ers’ bats come alive against Eagles
The Gulf Coast Bank Abbeville 29’ers and the Abbeville Eagles faced off for the penultimate game of their American Legion schedules.
The 29’ers had their bats going all night long as they were able to rout the Eagles by the final score 18-7.
“Hats off to coach Adams and his young group,” 29’ers head coach Darin Desormeaux said. “He (Adams) always has his kids ready to play. We moved a couple around, and the truth of it is we are a little baseball rusty. We have been rained out several times, and off the top of my head it has been at least a full week since we have played.
“After being off the field for a week, it feels great to finally get back out here and play some baseball.”
The 29’ers got the game started off on the right foot.
They scored five runs in the top of the first inning.
The big play of the top of the first was an two RBI single by shortstop Ty Desormeaux.
His single scored Jace Harrington and Trey Broussard.
The Eagles would make a bit of a rally in the bottom of the second inning by scoring five runs of their own.
The Eagles used the misfortune of the 29’ers to score their runs.
Seth Patin, starting pitcher for the 29’ers, walked four Eagles batters in the bottom of the second inning.
The 29’ers would respond to the three runs in the bottom of the first inning by the Eagles, by scoring five more runs in the top of the second.
The biggest play of the inning was a grand-slam home run to left field by Trey Broussard.
After that the Eagles would only score four total runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
The 29’ers however would score at least two runs in six innings of the game.
“This was a good game for us,” Desormeaux said. “Not because of the win but because we had 12 kids here tonight, and all of them were able to get out there and play a little bit. That was really good to get them all some game action because it allows them to knock off some of the rust off.
“I was also really glad we were able to get our bats going tonight, and it was fortunate because that is what pulled us through tonight.”
Trey Broussard led the way for the 29’ers at the plate by going 2-for-2 with a double and the grand-slam in the second inning.
He was also hit by a pitch twice, and finished the game with 5 RBIs.
William Noegel led the way for the Eagles.
Noegel was 1-for-2 with a single and an RBI to go along with a walk.
