Delcambre —Funeral services will be held Monday, November 17, 2014 at a 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Lake Church honoring the life of Ophelia Marie Sonnier Schexnayder, 101, who died Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Maison du Monde Living Center.
She will be laid to rest at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery with Rev. Msgr. Douglas Courville officiating the services.
Pallbearers will be Ken Schexnayder, Turk Schexnayder, Joey Schexnayder, Hank Schexnayder, Trent Leleux and Cody Frederick.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caretakers Mrs. Vera Shelvin and Mrs. Collette Thibeaux.
She is survived by her three sons, Curtis Schexnayder and his wife Kelly, Sidney Schexnayder, III and his wife Teri, and Darson Schexnayder and his wife Liz all of Delcambre; fourteen grandchildren, Marla Leleux and her husband Ralph of Delcambre, Hedi Frederick and her husband J.R. of Missouri City, TX, Ken Schexnayder and his wife Jamie of Delcambre, Listi Arceneaux and her husband Mark of Delcambre, Dana Bodin of Lake Charles, Desi Hanagriff and her husband Randy of Garden City, Jessie Martin and her husband Curtis of Garden City, Bridgett Casell and her husband Doug, Turk Schexnayder and his wife Jennifer of Metairie, Stephanie Landry and her husband Brent of Erath, Sidney “Joey” Schexnayder, IV and his wife Dusti of New Iberia, Amy Schexnayder of Erath, Cole Schexnayder of Erath and Hank Schexnayder of Delcambre; thirty great grandchildren; five great great granchildren; and two brothers, Minos Sonnier of Mississippi and Irving Sonnier of Franklin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Schexnayder, Jr.; parents, Orgard and Ida Broussard Sonnier; son, Burton Schexnayder; daughter-in-law, Laurel Schexnayder; great grandchild, Casey Frederick; brothers, Ed Wilfred Sonnier, Edgar “Bee” Sonnier, Loveless “Love” Sonnier and Percy Sonnier; and sisters, Thelma “Sis” Delahoussaye, Edia “Ida” Geoffroy and Elma “Nune” Crawford
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 206 W. Church St., Delcambre on Monday, November 17, 2014 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service with a rosary to be prayed at 10:00 a.m.
