Wildcats hope to tame Tigers Friday
The Abbeville Wildcats hope to recover from a devasting loss on the final play of the game when they travel to battle the Loreauville Tigers Friday night.
Abbeville, was stunned at the end of their last game versus the Port Barre Red Devils, when Port Barre was able to catch a hail mary pass in the endzone as time expired for the 12-8 victory.
A game in which Abbeville proved to be the better team, controlling the clock, and maintaining the lead for most of the game.
The Wildcats enter the game 0-4 and yearning for that first victory in the Chris Towery Era. Over the two weeks, Abbeville has gotten closer and closer to capturing that elusive win.
The key for the Wildcats is their running game and it starts with the team's leading rusher, Malik Small. On a limited amount of attempts, Small has been able to rush for 139 yards and one of the two Abbeville touchdowns on the season.
Quarterback Bryce Melancon is starting to hit a groove, coming off of his best performance of the season vs. Port Barre. Melancon threw for 132 yards and one score against the Red Devils.
Loreauville strolls into the game with a 2-2 record fresh off of a 49-33 loss to the undefeated Church Point Battlin' Bears.
The Tigers bring a new element that Abbeville has not faced so far this season. Loreauville is more of a balanced team that can throw the ball as well as run the ball effectively.
Rhashid Bonnette is the Tiger's number one playmaker. Bonnette, a returning All-State wide receiver, is a matchup nightmare wherever he lines up on the field. The Wildcats will have to account for the rushing attack of Loreauville as well.
An 0-5 start is something that Abbeville is looking to avoid, and they will have their hands full with a talented Loreauville team.
