Rivalry renewed between Eagles and Bobcats

One of the biggest rivalries in Vermilion Parish will be revisited tonight when the Erath Bobcats travel to play the Vermilion Catholic Screamin’ Eagles at 7 p.m.
The two teams are only separated by one game, but they seem to be headed in two totally different directions.
Erath is coming off of a 63-7 loss to juggernaut Catholic High of New Iberia, and the Eagles are still soaring after their 32-26 overtime victory over the Welsh Greyhounds.
The Bobcats will be without starting running back Elijah Mitchell for the second consecutive game, and even though things may look grim for the Bobcats heading into the game, there is one factor that should not be ignored.
“Anytime it’s a rival game, records just go out of the window,” said Eagles head coach Russell Kuhns. “When you have two teams like that it’s going to be a dogfight.”
The Eagles remember the fight that the Bobcats put up last year, losing 28-19, which was the second closest margin of victory for VC during their dominant championship run.
The two teams are different, but they still present problems for each other.
Erath’s size may cause problems for the Eagles, especially on the lines of scrimmage. Erath’s toughness is often unmatched, as they look to battle each game under first-year head coach David Comeaux.
The Eagles speed can cause problems for Erath, especially considering the Bobcats have shown susceptibility to speed in their performances versus Cecilia in the jamboree, and Catholic High last week. The make-up of these two teams are drastically different, as both coaches gameplan to try and maximize their strengths.
One factor that exists for the Eagles this year, that did not exist last year is first-year quarterback Hunter Frith. With VC customarily having a pocket passer at the position, Frith brings the possiblity to eat up yardage running the ball as well, which brings another element that Comeaux and the Bobcats have to prepare for.
It remains to be seen whether the Bobcats will get their first win of the season, or the Eagles use their dramatic win last week as a springboard for great things for the rest of the season.
