North Vermilion’s Patin stays busy
Some kids have a hard time keeping up with just their school work.
Seth Patin not only has to deal with that but he also has to manage playing football, soccer and baseball for the North Vermilion Patriots.
“Honestly, I don’t know how I keep up with everything. It is pretty tiring,” Patin said. “It is a lot of hard work, and I make sure I listen to my coaches because they know what to do.”
Going from one sport to the other can take a toll on most people, but it seems that Patin has found a way to keep his wits about him.
“I make sure that I stay as mentally focused as I can,” Patin said. “I practice as much as I can. I make sure I keep in touch with my sports, even if its just shooting the soccer ball around, or just throwing the baseball.”
Despite the fact that he is an All-District wide receiver and an All-District Center fielder, there is one sport that is Patin’s true love, soccer.
“I have been playing soccer since I was five or six years old,” Patin said. “I took a little break from playing, but picked it back up when I got to high school and just fell in love with it again.”
The summer can be a busy time, especially for Patin.
He has to juggle football in the morning, and baseball in the afternoon.
“Right now I’m not practicing on soccer,” Patin said. “I’m still working on my tip drills and watching the World Cup, but I work out in the morning from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., then we do our football stuff. After football I get to go home and take a little break and rest then I come out here and play baseball.”
Along with the busy schedule he already has, according to his teammate Drake Broussard, he also has a job at McDonalds.
Even with the several things Patin already has on his plate, he still finds time to excel on the baseball diamond.
This past season for the North Vermilion Patriots, he broke the school record with most stolen bases, with 30.
“It was very special for me to be able to break that record,” Patin said. “It was a record that I had my eyes on, and I’m very proud it is mine.”
Even Patin’s coaches have nothing but good things to say about Seth and his performance on and off the field.
“Seth is one of those boys, I took at eight years old and we started traveling,” 29’ers head coach Darin Desormeaux said. “I consider him one of my own. Seth is a very unique baseball player. He could easily start all nine positions on the field. Personally, I think he is one of the best center fielders in the state, and that is a tribute to his work ethic, his leadership on and off the field and his knowledge of the game of baseball.”
Even his teammates enjoy having Patin on the team.
“He is a great teammate,” Allan Rowell said. “Along with that he is a lot of fun to have around.”
So if you get a chance, go and catch a 29’ers game, and if you can’t make those, wait until the school year starts because Patin will give you plenty of opportunities to watch him .
Whether it’s football, soccer or baseball.
