29’ers get back on track
The Abbeville 29’ers have been off to a bit of a slow start to begin the American Legion schedule.
Head coach Darin Desormeaux challenged his team “to make this a game changing game.”
“I wanted them to come out here, and change the way we had been playing,” Desormeaux said. “I think we did just that, which makes me really happy.”
The 29’ers finally got the bats going as they came out and put up seven runs in the first and second inning combined.
The 29’ers would later add two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Donald Comeaux started the inning off with a double, and the very next batter, Trey Broussard hit a towering no-doubt two-run home run to left field to give the 29’ers the 7-0 lead.
The Abbeville Eagles would get on the board in the top of the sixth inning.
With one out in the inning, Tyler Derouen got a single to right field.
He subsequently stole second and third base on consecutive pitches.
He was able to score on a wild pitch to bring the score to the final of 7-1.
“We hadn’t been playing very well entering the game, and I challenged them to use this game as a turning point,” Desormeaux said. “I’m glad to say that I think they did just that.
“We were able to finally get our bats going early in the game. They are finally starting to look like the team I though they could be.”
Trey Broussard led the way for the 29’ers.
He was 3-for-3 with the two-run home run. He also added a single and a double, leaving him only a triple away from completing the cycle.
Drake Broussard also had a pretty good day at the plate.
He went 1-for-2 with a single. He also reached base on a walk and was hit by a pitch in the top of the second inning.
