Having fun is the name of the game
For most graduated seniors, the summer after they are officially done with high school are filled with rest and relaxation.
They take it easy because coming down the pipe is college and the idea of having to grow up, but for Wes Meaux his summer is filled with baseball and he would have it no other way.
“I don’t see it as losing a month of my summer,” Meaux said. “I see it as I get to do something I love for just that much longer.”
Meaux graduated from Vermilion Catholic last month, and despite playing football, basketball and baseball for the entire four years he was at VC, Meaux is still wanting to be on the diamond more than anywhere else.
“I love playing baseball,” Meaux said. “I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else. I don’t know what it is, but being out there on the field there is something special about it, and that is why I love this game so much. Plus it is a lot of fun to be playing baseball.”
Meaux has been playing baseball since he was four years old.
“I fell in love with the game at a very young age,” Meaux said. “I have been in love with the game ever since then.”
Despite playing football and basketball for VC, if Meaux had the choice he would choose baseball every time.
“Don’t get me wrong I like playing football and basketball, but there is nothing like playing the game of baseball,” Meaux said. “There is just something great about being out there on the mound. It is something that I live for.”
Meaux’s enthusiasm for the game is easily seen by everyone around him, especially his American Legin coach.
“Wes is a joy to have on the team,” 29’ers head coach Darin Desormeaux said. “This is the first time I have had the pleasure of coaching Wes, and he has been great.
“He shows up and does everything you ask him to do. I also really love the fact that he has already grduated from high school and is still trying to perfect his craft. He is here because he wants to be here and it really shows.”
Meaux is wanting to go to college, and hopefully play baseball at the collegiate level, but that isn’t what is on his mind right now.
“I would love to continue to play baseball at the college level,” Meaux said. “I’m just not worried about that right now. I just want to come out here and have as much fun, doing something I love, as I can. Everything else I can worry about later.”
His love for the game of baseball is what drives him.
It is the reason that even though he isn’t guaranteed another baseball season after this one, he still gives up a month of his summer to play baseball.
The love for the game of baseball will make kids do special things, and Wes Meaux is a prime example of that.
“I don’t want to think about without playing baseball,” Meaux said. “I guess that’s why I decided to play American Legion. I love the game so much because it is the best. There is nothing else I would rather do.”
