Erath, North Vermilion represented in LHSCA All-Star Baseball Game
The 2014 Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star game is slated to get underway this evening, and Vermilion Parish will have two members participating in the All-Star Game.
Erath head coach David Jordan will be the head coach of the West team, and North Vermilion’s senior catcher Trey Broussard will be the starting catcher.
“It’s an honor to be selected to coach in the All-Star game,” Jordan said. “I think me being selected to coach this team is a product of my team, and how well they played this year. I am honored to have been chosen.”
Jordan led his Erath Bobcat’s team to a 17-11 regular season record.
Jordan also split the 6-3A district title.
To go along with him coaching in the All-Star game, he was also named Co-Coach of the Year in District 6-3A, and Coach of the Year in the parish.
Jordan’s Bobcats made a trip to the state championship playoff tournament for the fifth straight year, and made it as far as the second round for the fourth straight year.
Trey Broussard is a senior at North Vermilion, and was a leader for the Patriots who finished the season with a 27-3 regular season record.
Broussard finished the season with a .303 batting average.
Over the course of the season he had 19 RBIs and scored 22 runs.
Broussard also was second on the team in home runs with three.
Broussard was also named to the first team District 6-3A All-District team, along with being on the first team All-Parish team.
The rain that has swept across most of southern Louisiana may have a hand in when the games will actually be played.
The games are scheduled to be played at 7:30 p.m. tonight and 12:15 p.m. tomorrow afternoon at Denham Springs Netterville Field.
“It all depends on how much rain we get,” Denham Springs head baseball coach MarkCarroll said. “Based on how it goes, there’s a chance we can get it (field) ready in time for Friday.”
Carroll is also the Executive Director of the LHSCA executive board.
Players are set to arrive this morning, but the rain could force tonight’s game to be pushed back as part of a double header tomorrow.
Regardless if the game gets underway tonight or tomorrow it is an honor for both Jordan and Broussard to be selected to participate in the All-Star game.
