Prejean takes reigns as head coach
Spring football practice has always only been seven to eight days long, and usually is used as a just reminder of the playbook and the different schemes the teams will be running for the season.
For the North Vermilion Patriots, they are having to learn an entirely new scheme because they have a brand new head coach.
“It was a little different for me at the beginning,” Prejean said. “I am so use to taking my lead from the guy in charge, and this year I’m the guy in charge. I was a little uncomfortable at first, but after a couple of days, I got into the flow of things.”
This upcoming fall will be coach Prejean’s first year at the helm of the Patriots.
He has been a member of the coaching staff for several years, but this is his first chance to run the team as the head coach.
“I think the time frame is what was the biggest set back,” Prejean said. “I just got done with softball, and now we had to kind of throw together a spring practice routine. All-in-all it was a good week of practice, and after the first day or so, everyone settled in and I think we got some good work done.”
After finally being able to settle in as head coach, Prejean was able to get in seven solid days of practice.
“We had a good week of practice,” Prejean said. “It was kind of rushed, but we were able to get everything together, and I learned a lot about this team.
“Don’t expect us to look to much different than we did last year, but some little things will be different. This week was better for the coaches than the players I think.”
According to Prejean the only real difference between his team, and last years team is the terminology.
“Again, our team won’t look much different than last year’s team, Prejean said. “The only difference so far is the terminology. I ran the offense last year, and it will look much the same. The terminology is going to be the biggest hurdle we have to jump over, come the fall.”
The North Vermilion Patriots are in a good position.
They finished last season with a first round loss to Loranger, and despite having a new head coach, they are still poised to build upon the success of last season.
