Nothing but winners in these games

 

 Let me win, but if I can not win, let me be brave in the attempt -  Special Olympics Oath.

Standing tall and sitting up proud are two Gueydan High School students ready to show their spirit and compete.

More than 100 athletes assembled on the Kaplan High School Football Field recently for the Annual Special Olympics for Vermilion Parish Schools. 

Gueydan High and Jesse Owens Elementary were represented with several student participating in the event.

Jesse Owen’s student Larry Clark had the privilege of reciting the Special Olympics Oath during the opening of the event.

Each athlete prevailed in his or her own event they competed in with huge smiles on their face despite the  cold strong winds of that day.

In June 1962, Eunice Kennedy Shriver started a day camp for children with intellectual disabilities at her home in Potomac, Maryland. It has grown to the world’s largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities providing year-round training and competitions to more the 4.2 million athletes in 170 countries.
