Bertrand and Smith wed in Holy Matrimony

GUEYDAN - Chelsea Faye Bertrand and Bryce Elliott Smith were united in Holy Matrimony on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church at 6 o’clock in the evening. The ceremony was officiated by Father Corey Campeaux and Father Michael Champagne.
The bride is the daughter of Chad and Katy Bertrand of Gueydan. She is the granddaughter of Burnie and Loretta Benoit of Gueydan, and the late Neelis and Faye Bertrand of Gueydan.
Chelsea is a graduate of Gueydan High School and the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a Doctorate of Pharmacy. She is currently employed by Walgreen’s Pharmacy.
The groom is the son of Melvin and Margie Smith, Jr. of Gueydan. He is the grandson of Melvin and Martha Smith, Sr. of Gueydan, and Lavonne Breaux, and the late Huland Breaux, of Gueydan.
Bryce is a graduate of Gueydan High School and SLLC Computer Electronics Technology. He is currently employed by Rader Solutions.
The bride was given in marriage by her father wearing a white, Mori Lee gown which featured a strapless, sweetheart neckline a fitted bodice with beaded lace on organza and finished with a trumpet skirt and beaded train. The bride wore a two tiered, waltz length veil, accentuated with beaded trim edging. She carried a bouquet of white roses, hydrangeas, baby’s breath, and greenery, wrapped in white ribbon and lace.
Serving as maid of honor was Courtney LeBlanc, friend of the bride. Wendy Smith, sister-in -law of groom, served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids included Sabrina Benoit, cousin of the bride; Caina Smith, sister of the groom; and Kyndal McCrown friend of the bride.
The bridesmaids each wore floor length chiffon gowns in a cactus color. The gown featured a modified sweetheart neckline with pleated wrap bodice, draping at the hip and a key hold back. They all carried a bouquet of white hydrangeas, with baby’s breath and greenery, and wrapped in white ribbon.
Flower girls included Reagan Smith, niece of the groom, Lily Sagura, niece of the bride, and Ava Bertrand, niece of the bride. They wore white organza dresses, with a ruffled skirt and white sash at the waist.
Serving as best man was Ashley Smith, brother of the groom. Groomsmen included Brett Heath, friend of the groom; Luke Bertrand, brother of the bride; Preston LeJeune, friend of the groom; and Mace Mouton, friend of the groom. The men wore gray tuxedos, with cactus colored vests and ties and white shirts. The boutonnieres were a single white rose and greenery.
Serving as ring bearer for the ceremony was Gannon Smith, god child of the groom. He wore a gray tuxedo, with a white vest and tie that matched the groom.
Ushers for the ceremony included Drew Bertrand, brother of the bride; Brandon Bertrand, brother of the bride; and Braxton Marceaux, cousin of the groom. They wore gray tuxedos with black vests and ties, and white shirts.
Readers for the ceremony included Mona Simon, aunt of the bride, and Chantay Abshire, aunt of the groom. Music was provided by harpist Laurie Hefner.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Gueydan Civic Center. The bride’s cake was a traditional white, square, four tiered cake decorated in white butter cream. The cake featured fleur-de-lis details, with pear edging along each tier; the cake was topped with a monogrammed “S”. The groom’s cake was a one tier, red velvet cake in the shape of an X-Box one and controller, and covered in chocolate covered strawberries.
After a honeymoon in Ochos Rios, Jamaica, the couple will reside in Lafayette.
