FIEB Teachers of the Year

FIEB Elementary has chosen both Elementary and Middle School Teachers of the Year since the facility consists of grades Pre-K through 8th. Tara Frick and Meaghan Schexnider are this year’s honorees.

Meaghan Schexnider is a 1999 graduate of Kaplan High. She earned her Bachelor of Elementary Education from UL Lafayette in December 2003 and is highly qualified in Science. Meaghan has 10 ½ years teaching experience. Her profession, thus far, has included 6th grade at Rene Rost Middle, 5th grade at Herod Elementary, 4th grade at Kaplan Elementary, and is currently the 6th-8th grade science teacher at FIEB. Meaghan is in charge of the Science Fair and is the Yearbook Sponsor. Currently, Meaghan is the Supervising Teacher for ULL Teacher Intern, June Zaunbrecher from Gueydan.

Meaghan is the granddaughter of the late Earl and Lillian Comeaux and LouElla Hardy and Jimmie Meaux Sr. She is the daughter of Jimmie and Andrea Meaux. Meaghan is married to Chris Schexnider. They are the parents of a set of twin boys, Gabriel and Matthew.

Meaghan has an enthusiasm for science and enjoys sharing it with the students. “It is my daily intention to engage the students in both meaningful and memorable activities in hopes that they will gain a curiosity for both science and learning. I do enjoy all of the rewarding aspects and challenges associated with being an educator.”

Tara Frick graduated from the former E. Broussard High School in 1991. Tara received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1994. She also acquired her Master’s Degree in Supervision and Administration from the College of Education.

Tara is currently teaching Kindergarten at FIEB. She has formerly been employed at both Herod Elementary and Kaplan Elementary. Tara’s experience includes Pre-K, 1st, 3rd, and 4th grade. Her passion is best enjoyed at the Kindergarten level where she has taught for 14 years.

Tara has been married to Blaine Frick for 20 years. Together, they have six children: Grant, Alexis, Rylie, Leah, Mason and Dane. Tara is the daughter of Peggy and Chris St. Romain and Wayne and Chris Marceaux.

Tara has a passion for working with little ones. “It is extremely rewarding to see my students’ learning and accomplishments. Though education has changed drastically since I began teaching 18 years ago, I still believe in and enjoy the children in my classroom. Aside from being a wife and mother, there is no greater joy or challenge in my life!”
