Dozier student meets goals for the year

Javien Delasbour, 11 year old son of Terrell & Karen Delasbour and grandson of Nolan and Viola Gilbert, decided to set goals his first year at Erath Middle School.

He had always been an honor roll student but decided to go a little further for the 2013-2014 school year. He wrote down 2 goals: (1) 4.0 GPA and (2) Perfect Attendance.

He left these goals posted on a board in his room all year long as a reminder.

Working to achieve these goals he even turned down an all expense paid cruise to Belize in April that would have required him to miss 5 days of school.

This is a difficult decision for an adult let alone a kid who has never been on a cruise before and has the desire to do so.

On Wednesday he received an award for 4.0 GPA and an award for Perfect Attendance proofing that no matter your age you too can set and achieve your goals.

Javien is a member of Jr Beta, 4-H, has qualified for EMS Symphonic Band where he plays the saxophone, and scored Advance in subject areas on the most recent ileap test.

He has attended the LSU Tiger Challenge Summer Program for the last 4 years and will be attending SMU for video game development this summer.

Javien, who also loves football and has played the sport for 2 years, will be attending Cowboy Camp at AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX in June.

He definitely knows the meaning of prayer and devotion and puts Jesus first in all he does.

With this, he has already set goals for the next school year complete with a Summer reading list and challenges all youth to set meaningful goals and do your best to achieve them.
