VC handed tough loss

Despite having all of its players back from the football team, the Vermilion Catholic Eagles were handed a tough loss, 49-38, to Covenant Christian.

“We got so many players back from football it’s like we have a brand new team,” VC Head Coach Roch Charpenteir said. “So, it’s going to take us some time to get in a basketball mind-set. I just hope not too long.”

The Eagles got down early, and at half time found themselves in a 31-14 hole.

Through some half time adjustments, the Eagles were able to play a much better second half.

VC actually beat Covenat Christian in the second half, 24-18.

Unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough to overcome the large gap from halftime.

“We played much better in the second half,” Charpenteir said. “I think it showed that once these guys get on the same page, they can play with anyone.”

Mike Campbell led the way for the Ealges in scoring with a team high nine points.

William Noegel wasn’t far behind adding seven of his own.

Chris Campbell, Brennan Gallet, Wes Meaux and Shay LaPorte each added five points to the scoreboard.

Drake Broussard rounded out the scoring for the Eagles with two.

VC will be in action again tomorrow night against Notre Dame.
