Funeral services were held at Gossen Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. for Helen Tillson Chappuis, 87, who died Thursday, November 27, 2008.

Surviving are son, William W. Chappuis of Nashville, TN; son, Thomas C. Chappuis and wife Cindy of Lafayette; daughter, Christine L. Simpson and husband Sam of Rayne; daughter, Mary Ellen “Mimi” Bogan and Steve of Gulf Breeze, FL; daughter, Diane Stelly and husband Ken of Lafayette; grandson, Jon Simpson and wife Trisha of Lafayette; grandson, Jeremy Simpson and wife Dawn of Lafayette; granddaughter, Joni Doucet and husband Shane of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Kyle, Kasey and Kamryn Stelly of Lafayette, Kalee and Talia Bogan of Gulf Breeze, FL; 12 great grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Abner Charles Chappuis; and three brothers Clare Tillson, Cecil Tillson and Harold Tillson..

She was born Tuesday, June 14, 1921, in Newton, Iowa, daughter of the late Arthur C. Tillson and the late Hilda Walker.

Helen met her husband in Washington, D.C. where she was employed at the Office of War Information. She and her husband “Hunk” were married for 46 years. Rayne has been her home for the last 60 years. She was active in Centenary Methodist Church and served as Executive director of the Rayne Housing Authority. Serving other people was foremost in her heart and her quick wit was appreciated by all.
