Abbeville High alum creates three-day basketball event
Abbeville High School gymnasium will be rocking this weekend with lots of basketball.
Abbeville High alum Latosha Mitchell and other volunteers from Abbeville are presenting the Vermilion Parish Co-Ed Basketball Legacy Tournament.
Mitchell, who lives and teaches school in Baton Rouge, said this is a way to give back to Abbeville. She puts on the same legacy tournament in Baton Rouge at Woodlawn Middle School.
“I’m still a community driven fanatic,” said Mitchell. “I’ve lost a lot of my family and friends. But I’ve been rejuvenated by young leaders like Kalen Smith, Daphne Nolan, Clent Briggs and others. I want to help to bring more positive opportunities to my hometown community.”
There is still time to register for all of the events, including the co-ed tournament, which gets underway on Saturday.
The registration fee is $50 per co-ed team, which must have at least two female players (ages 15 and older).
There will be all-star competitions, college athletes leadership Dare to Dream talks, and great basketball entertainment.
