Erath firemen teamed up to battle the fire in Abbeville.

Abbeville house burns Friday afternoon

The Abbeville Fire Department battled a house fire for at least three hours Friday afternoon on Henry Street, located along the Vermilion River.
When the fire department arrived, they saw flames and smoke shooting out of the back of the house from the attic. The fire spread to the front of the attic.
Because of the metallic roof, the fire stayed in the attic, making it challenging for the fire department to put it out.
The department had to use its ladder truck to throw water on top of the house. Eventually, the fire was put out but the roof caved in.
No one was home at the time the fire started.
The fire is believed to have begun in the back of the house. It was believed two dogs were in the house and may have been lost in the fire.
It was a rent home owned by Ed Piazza of Abbeville.
No other homes next to the house were damaged.
Members of the volunteer Erath Fire Department were on scene to help battle the fire.
