Former Kaplan band director charged with molestation

KAPLAN - Former Kaplan High School band director Alex Hilliard has been formally charged with molestation of a juvenile.
Hilliard, 27, of Lafayette, was arrested in April for three counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile after K9 officers reportedly found a 16-year-old female in the band room with the band director during a school holiday.
Police accused Hilliard at the time of having inappropriate contact with the 16-year-old on three separate occasions.
Hilliard’s arraignment is set for Oct. 30.
Hilliard had only been at Kaplan High since 2013.
In his first year, while at Kaplan High, Hilliard was selected as an honored recipient of the Outstanding Young Music Educator’s Award.
Kaplan High was his first teaching job. After being hired, he led the KHS Pirate Regiment to District Festival where they scored superior ratings from every judge.
