Crowley women arrested for armed robbery in Abbeville

Two Crowley women remain in the Vermilion Parish Jail after they allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint and knifepoint in Abbeville earlier this month.
Abbeville Police arrested Jennifer Desormeaux, 17, and Tara Wells, 23, both of Crowley, last week after they allegedly robbed a man in his hotel room early on March 8. The alleged victim, whose name is not being released pending the completion of an investigation, is also from Crowley.
Abbeville Police Department Det. Leland Laseter said the incident allegedly occurred after the two women accompanied the man to his hotel room on the night of March 7.
“The male and the two females were staying at a local hotel,” Laseter said. “It was in that room where the females allegedly pulled a gun and a knife on the him and demanded money.”
The two women reportedly left the hotel in their vehicle with $1,800. The alleged victim was later able to identify one of the women.
Laseter said police then located that suspect, Wells, at a hotel in Crowley. Police there arrested Wells on a warrant. Desormeaux was with Wells at the hotel and was brought to Abbeville for questioning.
“We investigated further and found out that (Desromeaux) was the second female,” Laseter said. “We obtained a warrant for her.”
Police booked both Desormeaux and Wells on armed robbery charges on March 13. Each suspect is being held on $100,000 bail.
Laseter said the investigation remains ongoing.
