Erath native honored in Arkansas
Each year, St. Bernards Healthcare selects an honoree for their Warrior Woman Wall of Fame. A breast cancer survivor is chosen to be recognized at a special reception.
This year, St. Bernards chose to honor Sr. dePorres Polk, a native of Erath. Sr. dePorres Polk suffered from breast cancer in 2008.
Born Barbara Polk, she is a graduate of James A. Herod High School. Her parents are the late Henry M. Polk, Jr. and Dorothy Jessie Polk and the great-granddaughter of Robert and Francis Dozier of Erath, who’s desire to provide an education for their children in 1911 led to the establishment of the public school which was named after them - Robert-Francis Dozier Elementary, now called Dozier Elementary.
Sr. dePorres is presently serving as the Sub Prioress under S. Lillian Marie Reiter, Prioress, at Holy Angels Convent, Olivetan Benedictine Sisters, Inc., in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
For their special honor, each woman on the Wall of Fame is photographed with a favorite activity. Sr. dePorres was photographed with a rosary in front of the Birth Care Center of St. Bernards, where she served for many years.
