Vermilion Parish Police Jury to close landfill on Sundays as way to save money

As a way to save money, the Police Jury is closing the landfill on Sundays.

Since the landfill has been open for 30-plus years, the landfill has been open seven days a week. Customers were able to drop off their trash on Saturdays and Sundays, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Police Jury approved the new hours at Monday night’s meeting.

Starting sometimes in Feburary of 2011, the landfill will close on Sunday. Then on Saturday, it will be open from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Monday through Friday, the landfill will open from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

“By doing this, we are saving $80,000,” said Police Jury President Wayne Touchet. “I want to thank Ricky (LeBlanc) for coming up with a way to save the taxpayers money.”

Also on Saturdays, grabs trucks will run from 7 a.m. until noon.
