Emile Trahan (middle) out runs the field in the 100 meter race.

VC's Emile Trahan wins Class 1A 100-meter state title

BATON ROUGE A Vermilion Catholic student was holding a sign in the stands that read: Emile Trahan: “Fastest Man in Acadiana (line drawn through Acadiana) and she wrote, “Louisiana.”
It’s hard to say if he is fastest high school athlete in Louisiana, but on Friday at the LHSAA/Allstate Sugar Bowl Class 1A track and field meet, he was the fastest that day.
Trahan, a senior, won his first ever state title after winning the 100-meter dash in 10.84 seconds. He beat out the defending state champion, Haynesville’s Kacacion Webster (10.87).
When Trahan, who went undefeated in the 100-meter dash this season, crossed the finish line, he was not 100 percent sure he had won the race.
“I did not know (I had won) until heard the announcer while I was running,” said Trahan. “He said, ‘Emile Trahan,’ so, I said, ‘I guess I’m in first.’”
Trahan had a busy day on Friday despite not being 100 percent.
He was a member of the 4x100 relay team that finished sixth and a member of the 4x200 team that took home fourth place.
Trahan ended the day with a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.9).
Trahan scored 19.25 points to help the Eagles finish fifth in the state meet with 46 points. Southern Lab took the meet with 75 points.
On the fourth place 4x200 meter relay team were Alex LeBlanc, Emile, Devren Constantine, and Tyler Derouen.
On the sixth place 4x100 meter relay team were Gage Broussard, Emile, Constantine and Derouen.
