VC softball team improves to 7-0

The Vermilion Lady Eagles improved to 7-0 on Thursday after taking care of the Lafayette Christian Knights.
The Lady Eagles were scheduled to play in the Catholic High tournament on Saturday, weather permitting.
It was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when VC scored two runs.
Ainsley Mallet got it started with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. Cady Roberts got on first, and with two lady Eagles on base, Bella Doucet roped a 2-RBI single that put VC ahead for good.
It stayed 2-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning.
VC exploded for seven runs and took a 9-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh inning.
The sixth inning got started when Taylor Abshire walked. Ann Marie Gallet came into the game to pinch-run for pitcher Taylor Abshire. Kelsey Michel singled over the short stop that put two on base. Sadie Boudreaux scored Gallet with a single of her own for a 3-0 lead.
Mary Meaux moved runners over with a bunt single to load the bases.
Mallet stepped up and lined a shot near the short stop that scored another run.
The big hit of the inning was a 3-RBI base clearing double by Zanesia Bernard. Bernard went 2-for-4 at the plate. Sadie Boudreaux also had an RBI double in the same inning.
VC softball coach Kim Guidry was happy to see the team hit better pitching than in the past six games.
“It took us a while to get adjusted to the better pitching, which we needed to see,” said Guidry. “I was glad to see were able to adjust.”
Helping keep the Knights off balanced was VC pitcher Taylor Abshire. Abshire pitched all seven innings and allowed only three hits. She struck out eight.
Abshire also went 3-for-4 at the plate. Bella Doucet, Mallet and Cady Roberts were all 2-for-4 at the plate.
Kelsey Michel, Meaux and Boudreaux each had a hit.
