VC looks to rebound against Gueydan

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles are looking to rebound after tough losses to Central Catholic on Tuesday.

The Lady Eagles lost only their fourth game overall and second district game against the Eagles of Central Catholic, and they are hoping to get a win against a young Gueydan team.

“We just have to move past it,” Lady Eagles Head Coach Kim Guidry said. “We still have a lot of basketball left, and we can’t let this get us down right before the playoffs start.”

The Lady Eagles are currently ranked fourth in the most recent edition of the power rankings.

They will be traveling to take on a Gueydan team that is fighting not only to stay in the playoff race, but to also hopefully host a playoff game.

The Honey Bears are currently ranked 24th in the power rankings and have three games left on their schedule after tonight’s game against VC.

If the Honey Bears can somehow move up eight spots they would have the luxury of hosting a home playoff game.

For them to be able to do that, they are going to need a step-up in production from their starting guard freshman Kiara Charles.

Charles has led the Honey Bears all season, but they are at the point now where everyone needs to be a little better.

That would include the veterans on the Gueydan team, juniors Kylie Crochet and Sheridan Guidry.

Following the Lady Eagles and Honey Bears game, the boys teams will take the court.

Both the Eagles and Bears are looking for wins at the end of the season that will help in the pride department even more than a push for the playoffs.

The girls game is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at the Gueydan gym.
