QSA All-Stars finish third in Pinto World Series

YOUNGSVILLE — The QSA 7-and-8-year-old All-Stars took third place in the Pinto World Series that ended Saturday.
The All-Stars, after losing their first game of the World Series on Wednesday, battled back through the loser’s bracket and reached the semifinal game.
QSA needed to beat Harlingen, Texas for the second time in two games in order to advance to the finals.
On Friday, QSA crushed Harlingen 19-8 to set up Saturday morning’s showdown.
Harlingen jumped on QSA 5-0 in the first inning and never let off the gas, cruising to a 12-2 game in four innings on Saturday.
The game lasted only 37 minutes in the Youngsville Complex.
QSA manager Brian Richard was proud of his team’s World Series performance.
“We did well,” said Richard. “Our players fought hard every game. This morning, I think we gave it our all the night before against Harlingen.”
After Harlingen jumped out a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning, QSA scored two runs in the bottom of the first. Braxton Richard tripled and would score on William Simon’s RBI single. Aidan Bertrand brought Simon home with a single of his own.
That would be the highlight of the game for QSA.
Harlingen had a convincing 12-2 lead after three innings.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Bertrand and Laytin Romero both singled but did not score.

In a late game Friday night, QSA needed to beat Harlingen, Texas to stay alive in the World Series.
It was also a rematch between to the two teams. Harlingen beat QSA 13-12 in the opening game of the World Series, knocking QSA in the loser’s bracket.
The boys from Vermilion jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Harlingen came right back and scored five runs of its own that tied it 5-5.
QSA went up 6-5 on Cade Francis’ ground out in the top of the second inning. Back came Harlingen and it scored two runs for a 7-6 lead.
QSA was down 8-7 heading into the top of the fifth inning.
With two on base, Aiden Bourque smacked a 2-RBI triple over first base to put QSA ahead for good.
Heading into the sixth inning, which is an open inning, QSA exploded for 10 runs. Back-to-back singles by Landyn and Ian Breaux set the tone. Francis brought one home with a RBI single and Broussard followed with a single of his own for an 11-8 lead.
The big hit of the inning with a bases loaded triple by William Simon that made it 14-8. Laytin also added a 2-RBI triple to secure the win.

On Friday in the first game, QSA had an easy time beating Youngsville, the host team, 12-2, to set up a rematch with Harlingen, Texas.
Against Youngsville, QSA jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings.
Aidan Bertrand tripled and Laytin Romero hit the first of his two in-the-park home runs to put QSA ahead 2-0. Aiden Bourque and Landyn Romero followed Laytin’s home run with singles. Jayden-John Ryals knocked them both home thanks to Youngsville errors. Ryals advanced to third on more errors and then was knocked in by Cade Francis’ RBI-single for a 5-0 lead.
QSA added four more runs in the top of the third inning. Coty Broussard had a triple in the inning and would score on Youngsville errors. Laytin would hit a 2-RBI in-the-park home run that made the score 9-0. His brother, Landyn, would drive in the 10th run of the game with a RBI-double for a 10-0 lead.
QSA put the game away in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs. Ryals led off the inning with a single and Francis brought him home with a double. Francis advanced to third base and came home on Broussard’s RBI-single to make it 12-2.

Thursday game

Bear Creek..8

The boys from Vermilion Parish stayed alive on Thursday by sending Bear Creek, Texas home after a 17-8 thrashing.
It was a close game for three innings. Texas was only down 10-8 after three innings.
QSA pulled away in the fifth inning with a five-run inning.
Jack Landry led off the inning with a single and Braxton Richard reached first base thanks to an error. With two on base, Laytin Romero scored Landry with an RBI-single.
With two more men on base, Aiden Bourque brought two home with a single to make it, 13-8.
The rally continued when Ian Breaux brought home two more runs with a 2-RBI single to make it 15-8.
In the top of the sixth frame, Jayden-John Ryals singled and Coty Broussard scored him with a triple. Another run scored for the final score of 17-8.
