NV keeps hope of district title alive
The North Vermilion Patriots faced off against district rival Notre Dame on Tuesday, and what looked liked it would be a blow-out turned out to be a neck in neck game.
The Patriots were able to finally pull out the 59-57 victory over Notre Dame, thanks in large part to the Windmon brothers.
Jordan Windmon hit the game winning shot that was assisted by his brother Jawuan Windmon.
It looked as though the Patriots were going to run away with the game at the end of the first quarter.
The Patriots, who have been a regularly slow starting team, scored 12 points in the first quarter, and only allowed Notre Dame to score four.
The second quarter is where the Pios started to turn the game around.
They were able to score 22 points, and hold the Patriots to 15.
The Pios second quarter closed the Patriots lead from eight points to only one heading into the halftime break.
Coach Jack LeBlack had high praises of his two freshmen Blake Turner and Brent Hollier.
Coach LeBlanc said that both of his freshmen stepped up and scored some big buckets for the Patriots while his starters were in foul trouble.
Turner scored all six of his points in the second quarter.
The Patriots were only able to extend their lead to two points heading into the final quarter.
The game was tied at 57-57 heading into the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
That was until Jordan Windmon hit the game winning shot with little time left on the clock to give the Patriots the 59-57 victory.
Nick Cooper led the Patriots in scoring with 14 points. Cooper scored eight of his 14 in the third quarter.
Donald Comeaux was only one point behind Copper as he was able to add 13 points of his own.
Jordan Windmon along with the game winning shot, scored eight more points to give him a grand total of 10 on the night.
Tre Levy was able to get in on the scoring action with eight points.
Freshmen Blake Turner scored six points, all in the second quarter.
Dade Dieterich was able to score four points.
Brent Hollier and Jawuan Windmon each scored two points apiece.
Jawuan Windmon also had a season high 12 assist on Tuesday night.
This was a big win for the Patriots.
This win kept Patriots on a collision course with the Kaplan Pirates, for the 6-3A district title.
With Kaplan winning on Tuesday night as well, both teams are still tied for the 6-3A lead.
If both teams win on Friday night, there will be a playoff game for the district title.
It will also be the fourth time these two teams have met this season.
NV will end its regular season at Erath on Friday.
The Patriots are also already locked into the playoffs.
They are currently ranked 12th in the power rankings.
