North Vermilion boys beat Kaplan

The North Vermilion Patriots are 2-0 in district after beating the Kaplan Pirates 69-53 Tuesday night in Kaplan.
The Pirates jumped out to a 8-2 lead but could not hold it.
The Pirates went on a 15-2 run in the final five minutes of the first period to storm ahead 18-10.
Then it got worse for Kaplan in the second period.
Blake Turner, a forward for North Vermilion, had the quarter of his life. Turner caught fire in the second quarter and scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers.
In the final three minutes of the second period, thanks to Turner’s shooting, NV went on a 10-2 run.
When the second period ended, the Patriots led, 43-23.
Jack LeBlanc, the North Vermilion head coach, was impressed with Turner’s performance considering he was sick before the start of the game.
“He seemed to spark the team with that quarter,” said LeBlanc. “He gave us some energy. We were able to pick up our defensive play as well.”
The crazy thing is that Turner came down with a leg cramp after a layup with three minutes to play in the third period. He sat out the rest of the game, because the Patriots led by 20 points.
Turner finished the game with 17 points. Other scorers for NV were Dreylon Adams (13), Malik Criner (9), Grant Dardar (8), Brent Hollier (5), Tyler Galley (7), Bailey Leleux (3) and Blake Hebert (1).
Dylan Touchet paced Kaplan with 19 points. He scored 14 of that in the second half.
Taylor Dupuis and Ryan Gratz each had nine points. Keegan Gaspard had 7, while Delane Roy made four, and Cole Mire added three.
