North Vermilion and Abbeville meet in jamboree Friday

They were once in the same district and for the last four years, the North Vermilion Patriots ruled the Abbeville Wildcats.
Now the 2015 Wildcats want to try and shake the image of being beaten by the Patriots.
Tonight in the Vermilion Parish Jamboree is where that process may begin.
The two teams, who do not play each other this year, will play each other in a two 15-minute halves jamboree.
Erath battles Kaplan at 7 p.m. and then Abbeville and North Vermilion follow around 8:30 p.m.
The Abbeville JV plays Gueydan at 5:30 p.m.
The jamboree will be held in Wildcat Stadium, behind J.H. Williams Middle School in Abbeville.
Admission is $8 a person. Tickets are on sale at the school and at the gate.
This will be Abbeville High’s head coach Gary Adkins’ first scrimmage as a Wildcat head coach. He took over the program about a month ago.
Adkins said his goal this season is to build the Abbeville football program to where it once was. Taking small steps is what it is going to take to get there, he said.
“We are looking towards the start of the season,” said Adkins. “We want to have success this season. Success does not always mean wins. It means teaching that child how to be a good kid and do the right thing in life.”
Look for the Wildcats to run the football. Adkins has installed a Flexbone Triple Option Offense.
Demarcus Collins will lead the offense at quarterback for AHS.
On the flip side, North Vermilion will begin its second season under head coach Richard Prejean. Prejean’s Patriots reached the second round of the playoffs after sneaking into the playoffs the final game of the year by beating Erath.
Prejean will want to see how his new quarterback Dade Dieterich plays in a real game atmosphere.
The NV head coach is looking forward to playing Abbeville because it is someone different.
“Abbeville is a different team and so are we,” said Prejean. “I know they (AHS) are eager to get on the winning track. I am looking forward to seeing improvement from how we played last week.”
