Monday Showdown: VC vs Gueydan Honeybears in district game

The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles have a rematch against the No. 2 seeded Gueydan Honeybears on Monday night at home.
The game is big because it is the last game of the first round in District 7A for both teams.
VC is 6-0 in district and Gueydan is 5-1.
Tip off is expected to be around 6:15 in the VC gym.
The two teams are familiar with each other. They played one another on Dec. 29 in the finals of the Yuletide Tournament.
Gueyan won its first ever Yuletide Classic, beating VC 44-32.
However, since that tournament loss, the Lady Eagles have won five straight games, while Gueydan went 4-1.
Gueydan’s recent loss was to district foe Lafayette Christian (40-28).
The Lady Eagles beat Lafayette Christian, 55-33, a week ago.
“Playing Gueydan will only make us better,” VC head coach Kim Guidry said. “Gueydan is the No. 2 seed (in power point ranking) and they have nothing to lose.”
VC (seeded No. 8) won its sixth straight district game on Thursday, crushing Central Catholic 62-31.
The last two games, VC has been shooting a lot better. As a team, they are shooting more than 40 percent from the field.
Because of that, Guidry expects her team to player better against Gueydan this time around.
In the win over Central Catholic, Jay Demouchet led with 21 points. Bella Doucet added 13. Leah Camel scored nine.

The Vermilion Catholic boys improved to 2-2 in district and 9-4 overall after beating Central Catholic on the road.
Ethan Menard and J.T. Lege each had a season-high performance for VC on Thursday.
Both players each scored 14 points.
William Noegel scored 12 points for the Eagles.
Noegel had only two points entering the final period. He scored 10 in the fourth period.
Jalen Johnson scored 30 points for Central Catholic. VC entertains Gueydan on Monday.
