Missed free throws hurt Abbeville

They are called free throws but there is nothing free about them.
The Abbeville Wildcats learned that fact the hard way.
On Friday, in Abbeville’s final regular season game against Westgate, the Wildcats made 11 out of 21 free throw line and lost the game, 53-47.
The Wildcats finished the year 14-12 overall and now wait to see if they are seeded high enough in the power point standings to earn a spot.
Going into the Westgate game, Abbeville was seeded No. 26. The Wildcats are expected to drop but how far?
The top 32 seeded teams make the playoffs.
The LHSAA pairings will be announced on Monday.
Despite shooting 6 for 16 at the charity stripe in the first half, Abbeville was only down 38-33. With two minutes left in the first half, the game was tied, 29-all.
The Wildcats could never get going in the second half. Three minutes into the third period, they went down by nine points.
AHS made a small run at the end of the third period. Tyrese Sam nailed a three-pointer for AHS to make it a five-point game, 49-44.
A minute into the fourth period, Abbeville’s Adaerion Mouton made one-out-of two free throws, and AHS was down only 51-47.
Westgate had a convincing 11 point lead for most of the fourth quarter until the final minute of the game. Sam made two free throws to trim the lead to nine (62-53). Sam was the hottest at the free throw line by going five-for-six.
Javante Decuir made a three-pointer for Abbeville to make it a 63-56 game with 25 seconds remaining.
Then with nine seconds left on the clock, Wildcat Kevin Williams popped a three pointer that put Abbeville within four points, 63-59, of taking the lead.
Westgate was able to hold off Abbeville’s late charge.
