Erath wins first game with University High in Class 3A playoffs
ERATH - The Erath Bobcats and University High volleyed the lead five times on Friday, but Erath came out on top for a 10-6 win.
It was the first game of two-out-three series with U-High in the second round of the playoffs.
The two teams will play again Saturday at 10 a.m. in Erath. If Erath wins, it moves on to the third round of the playoffs. If U-High wins, a third game will be played Saturday.
Erath pulled out the win thanks to a strong sixth inning. Erath scored on a two-run single by Bryson Suire, scoring Bren Faulk and Mason Granger.
Layne Faulk racked up two RBIs on two hits for Erath. He homered in the fifth inning and singled in the sixth inning.
Suire got the win in relief for Erath. Suire pitched 1 1/3 innings and allowed one run. Bren Faulk pitched the first five innings.
In the bottom of the third, Erath grabbed the early lead, 1-0. Chandler Leblanc got things going for Erath with a single. A stolen base then moved Leblanc from first to second. Mason Granger singled, bringing home Leblanc.
U-High outhit Erath 11-10.
Erath had two home runs in the game. Layne had one and Andre Touchet had the other. Touchet hit his 2-run homer in the fifth inning that tied it 5-5.
Erik Belanger had a double for EHS.
Erath scored nine runs in the fourth and fifth inning.
In the fifth inning, Kobe Baker singled home Faulk. Belanger doubled that would score Coy Sonnier that made it 10-5.
