Erath Lady Bobcats advance to the second round of soccer playoffs
The Erath Lady Bobcats are heading to Baton Rouge Wednesday to take on the defending State Champions - University Lab - in the second round of the soccer playoffs.
The match will begin at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
University (15-2) drew a bye in the first round, while No. 19 Erath upset No. 14 Bolden 2-1 in two overtimes.
In the second overtime, the game-winning shot occurred when Madison Landry crossed passed to Chloe Landry, who then passed it to Haley Campbell. Campbell, from around 20 yards out, kicked the ball past the goalie to win the match.
Erath (7-11) is the only lower seed below 16 to advance to the second round of the Division III playoffs.
Second-year head coach Todd Lucas is somewhat surprised by his team reaching the second round. He thought this year was a rebuilding year entering the season. The squad lost five seniors. from a year ago. They were replaced by six freshmen, who all start.
Because the Lady Bobcats are young, Lucas said his challenge leading up to Wednesday’s match is getting his club mentally prepared to beat University.
“I have to convince them they can play with University,” said Lucas. “I know we can be competitive with them. We have to play a physical game against them.”
University Lab plays solid on defense.
They beat St. Michael 3-1 in its final regular season game. It was the first time someone scored on them in 11 matches.
The projected EHS starting lineup on Wednesday are: Haley Campbell (forward)., Madison Landry (midfield), Ariel Younger (defense), Madyson Hebert (defense), Brittany Dubois (defense), Lila Jett (midfield), Chloe Landry (forward), Olivia Labit (midfield), Emily Harrington (defense), Maria Robicheau (defense) and Kelsey Arellano (goal keeper).
