Erath’s search begins

With former head coach Doug Dotson being involuntarily transferred out of Erath High School late last week, there is a void at the helm of the football team.

Now, the football team, school and community look to first year principal Marc Turner to fill said void.

“I am looking for a coach that will embrace everything we have and call it home,” Turner said. “Being a Bobcat is far more than wearing a blue shirt. Our community is “bobcat blue” from the inside out and we expect that from our faculty, especially from the head coach.”

The void left by not having a head coach can be a tough one to fill. Especially in a small town where everyone knows everyone.

That person has to be someone who will embrace the community and still be able to perform his duties on the field admirably.

“We have a great community here in Ertath,” Turner said. “The support of the students, parents, families and fans is the solid foundation where athletics enhance academics.”

Principal Turner knows exactly what he is looking for in a head coach.

“I would like to see a coach that will promote this environment and allow the students to maximize their skills both on and off of the field.” Turner said.

Along, with making sure that the new head coach will entrench himself inside the community, he also has to be dedicated to the academic side of student-athletes as well.

“In an environment where academics is first, I believe that we can build on that and move forwards adding a head football coach to our faculty that shares the academic and athletic vision,” Turner said.

One thing that is assured is that Principal Turner will make sure that he selects someone that will fill all the requirements needed in a head coach.

He is also making sure that the new head coach will be someone that a foundation of community, academics and good football can be built upon.

According to Turner the recruiting process has begun, “effective immediately.”

Turner is mulling over all of the candidates for the head coaching position, and will make the selection as soon as he feels he has the right coach that will fill all the requirements.

“This is the vision I see and this is the vision I will use to move forward during this process,” Turner said.
