Eagles start season strong
Since losing the last two games of their own tournament over a week ago, the Vermilion Catholic Eagles are perfect.
They finished the Jena Tournament this past weekend with a perfect 4-0 record, and won all four games by a combined score of 45-11.
The first win of the tournament came on Friday against Harrisonburg, where they won 21-1.
Then they turned right around, and as part of a double header, beat the hosting team Jena 11-0.
The Eagles would have two more games on Saturday and the result was the same.
The Eagles beat St. Mary of Natchitoches, in their first game, 4-2.
In the second game of the day and final game of the tournament for the Eagles, they would face off against Bolton and win 10-8.
In the Bolton game, the Eagles trailed 8-7 heading into the ninth inning.
Thanks to some timely hitting the Eagles were able to score three runs in the top of the ninth, and hold Bolton scoreless in the bottom of the inning to win by the final score of 10-8.
The Eagles have scored runs in bunches over the course of the first eight games.
“When it comes to the big innings, our personnal is great,” Eagles Head Coach Steven Adams said. “They just do what they have to do. Whether it’s stealing bases, getting walks, getting hit by a pitch, they just do everything needed to win.
VC has been winning their games by running the bases and trying to get as many steals as they can.
“It’s my style to get out and run,” Adams said. “It works out well that the personnal I have are very quick and have baseball savvy about them. They caught on to what we were teaching, extremely quick. I am proud of the way the boys have played so
far this season.”
The Eagles are now riding a four game winning streak, and have moved their record up to 6-2 on the season.
The Eagles will be back on the diamond tonight, when they square off against Kaplan for the second time this year.
