Delcambre finishes season on sour note

The Delcambre Lady Panthers season didn’t go quite the way it had hoped it would have, especially with the season ending in the first round of the state volleyball championship playoffs.

DELCAMBRE - The Delcambre Lady Panthers season didn’t go quite the way it had hoped it would have, especially with the season ending in the first round of the state volleyball championship playoffs.

“It was very disappointing,” Delcambre Head Coach Lisa Richard said. “We never got in any kind of rhythm, and we didn’t hit the ball very well.”

DHS lost to Episcopal in straight sets; 25-11, 25-21, 25-12.

DHS looked as though it found its groove again in the second set, but a few errors caused it to come up just short.

“The second set we picked it up a bit,” Richard said. “Our serving got better, we picked up the intensity on our defense and we blocked well in that second set.”

Richard went on to say that they came up just short in the second set, and once the set was lost, there was nothing they could do to regain control.

Senior Taylor Bourque led the charge for the Lady Panthers.

She totaled three digs, three aces, three assist, five kills and one block.

Chelsea Baudoin, Callie Hulin and Katlyn Thibodeaux, all seniors, each had one dig.

Richard went on to say that it was a tough season for her seniors.

“They knew coming into the season that it was going to be somewhat of a rebuilding season,” Richard said. “But they played great, and, yeah, they were disappointed, but they ended the season with no regrets.”

Richard also echoed that all of her seniors will be “sad they won’t get to play volleyball again.”

Despite losing six seniors from this year’s squad, Richard is optimistic about the future of the program.

“It was really good experience for all of our players,” Richard said. “You could tell in the first set that some of the freshmen were really nervous and had the jitters.”

She went on to say that the experience has been invaluable to them because now starting next season, the playoffs will just be another game.

Delcambre will be returning 13 athletes from the team next season, and will only have three seniors.

The Lady Panthers finished the season with 8-26 record.
