Delcambre’s Breaux signs with UL

For most high school athletes, the thought of going to college on scholarship to play the sport they love is a dream.

Well, for Kody Breaux of Delcambre, his dream came true on Tuesday.

Breaux is a senior pole vaulter at Delcamber, and early Tuesday afternoon he signed his nation letter of intent with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

“It is a dream come true,” Breaux said. “This is something I have been working towards since I was in middle school. It’s nice to be able to go to school on a scholarship.”

Not only is the scholarship a dream come true, but the fact that he will be attending UL makes all the more sweet.

“I’m so excited about being able to go to UL,” Breaux said. “I have always wanted to go there, and I’m excited that I will get to stay close to home. I won’t be too far away from all of my family and friends.”

Breaux had plans of attending UL even before the scholarship offer.

He plans on majoring in mechanical engineering.

Breaux isn’t the only one that is excited to see him sign with UL.

His parents are elated to see their son’s hard work pay off.

“We are just so excited,” Kody’s father Mike Breaux said. “It has been a lot of hard work that was put into this. I’m just happy to see it all pay off for Kody.”

“I’m just so happy he is going to UL,” Kody’s mother Liz Breaux said. “We have been big UL fans, and we couldn’t be happier that Kody is going to go to school there. I know that he has worked so hard at this. There is a lot that went into getting him to
this point. A lot of travel and a lot of time, but it was all well worth the time and effort now.”

Breaux’s love for pole vaulting started when he was in middle school.

“It was my brother that got me interested in pole vaulting,” Breaux said. “When I first started, I fell in love from the very beginning. It is something that I love doing, and now that I’m going to be able to go to school and still pole vault, I don’t think I could
be any happier than I am right now.”

Breaux holds the school record in pole vaulting with a vault of 15-09.

This season has gotten off a little slow for Breaux who is nursing an injured hand.

Breaux injured his hand during the indoor track season.

Pole vaulting is not just a fun past time for Breaux, it is his life.

According to Breaux’s father, they travel around the country during the summer all in an effort for Kody to get better at his craft.

“We are always going somewhere,” Mike Breaux said. “It has been a lot of time and a lot of money, but he loves it, and today it paid off in a big way.”

Head track coach Darcy Delcambre knows just how hard it is to get signed by a school, but knows that Breaux has earned ever bit that he has bee awarded.

“He is a great kid,” Delcambre said. “He works hard every day. He is so easy to coach because he knows what he has done wrong, or needs to do before you get a chance to tell him. I know that we sure are going to miss him when he is gone next
year, but I’m just so proud of him and the work he has put in.”

So if you get a chance ,head on out to the Patriot Relays this Friday, and you will get a chance to see Breaux do what he does best.
