Coming down to the wire

The Erath Lady Bobcats find themselves in a very precarious situation.

As it stands right now, they are currently sitting in the 30th spot of the most current power rankings.

Only the top 32 teams and district winners will make it into the State Championship Playoff Tournament.

“We know that every game is important,” Lady Bobcats Head Coach Andrea Bernard said. “This week has been playoff week for us.”

The Lady Bobcats’ chances of making the playoffs took a small hit when they lost to Notre Dame, 32-22, on Tuesday night.

With all that in the back of their minds, they still have one more game, and one more chance to solidify their positioning in the 3A playoff tournament.

The Lady Bobcats are traveling to take on the Kaplan Lady Pirates tonight.

The last time these two teams met was Monday night and the game had to be decided in overtime.

The Lady Bobcats were able to pull out the 33-28 victory.

“We learned a lot from that game,” Bernard said. “They (Kaplan) have improved tremendously on the defensive side of the ball.”

The Lady Bobcats are sporting a 14-12 record overall and a 5-4 district record.

Despite the winning record, the Lady Bobcats haven’t been able to get on much a roll here as of late.

They have alternated wins and losses for the past eight games.

If the Lady Bobcatsare going to win this game, they are going to need to see good production from everyone on the team, especially its six seniors, that are fighting to have the chance to play one more basketball after tonight.

“Our seniors really stepped up against Notre Dame,” Bernard said. “I think the way they held them to only 32 points really gives them a lot of confidence coming into the game against Kaplan.”

Along with the seniors, they are going to need their spark plug,Gabby Harrington to have a good game as well.

“Gabby (Harrington) is very important to our success,” Bernard said. “She is our coach on the floor.”

Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. tonight at Kaplan.
