Basketball gearing up for home stretch

It may still be cold outside, but the temperatures inside Vermilion Parish gyms are heating up.

The ladies across the parish only have two weeks left before the season comes to an end, and the boys only have three weeks to win as many games as they can before the playoffs begin.

Before we can get to the end of the season there are still some very crucial district games left on the schedules.

The Abbeville Wildcats and Lady Wildcats are at home for a three game stretch.

The first of those three games takes place tonight as they host West St. Mary.

They then will play host to parish rival Erath this Friday night.

Both the Delcambre Panthers and Lady Panthers are on the road this week,

They travel to Jeanerette tonight and then travel to New Iberia to take on Catholic High Friday night.

The Erath Bobcats and Lady Bobcats are also on the road this week as they travel to North Vermilion to take on the Patriots tonight, and travel to Abbeville to take on the Wildcats this Friday night.

The Gueydan Bears and honey Bears are traveling tonight to take on Highland Baptist, and then reutrn home to get a second crack at Vermilion Catholic on Friday night.

The Kaplan Pirates and Lady Pirates are fortunate enough to be home this entire week.

They start tonight by taking on the Notre Dame Pios.

For tonight’s game, there is one slight time adjustment.

The girls JV game is only going to last one half, consisting of two five minute quarters.

The Lady Pirates game will begin roughly at 5:45 p.m. The Pirates will follow after the conclusion of the girls ‘game.

Then on Friday night the Kaplan Pirates and Lady Pirates will play host to the Patriots of North Vermilion.

The Patriots and Lady Patriots of North Vermilion are playing host to the Erath Bobcats and Lady Bobcats tonight.

Then on Friday night both teams gear up and prepare to take on the Pirates and Lady Pirates of Kaplan.

The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles have a huge match-up tonight as they play host to Central Catholic.

The reason this is such a big match-up for the Lady Eagles is both of these teams are inside the top three of the power rankings and the district championship could rest upon the winner of this game.

Along with all that the Lady Eagles lost to Central Catholic earlier this year in Morgan City, 53-35.

So they will be looking to protect their home court.

The Eagles will also be taking on Central Catholic right after the girls’ game is concluded.

Then on Friday night the Eagles and Lady Eagles will travel to Gueydan to take on the Bears and Honey Bears.

The end of the basketball regular season is nearly upon us and there are still several teams that can either make or miss the playoffs in the next couple of weeks.

It will be very fun to watch down the home stretch.
