Abbeville High running back, Kaplan defensive end selected Players of the Week

Abbeville’s running back Matt Johnson rushed for 209 yards and scored four touchdowns in Abbeville’s big win over Berwick. Johnson earned the Gulf Coast Bank Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance.

Payton Gaspard, the defensive end for Kaplan, remained in hot pursuit to try and slow down one of the best quarterbacks in Acadiana - Hunter Frith of VC. Frith got his 250 yards passing off of Kaplan, but Gaspard made him pay every time he threw the football. Gaspard tipped one of Frith’s throws that led to an interception. He also had 6 solo tackles, 3 assists and one tackle behind the line of scrimmage to earn him this week’s Defensive Player of the Week.
