Benjamin Koch of Abbeville holds up his two first place trophies that he won over the last two weekends. He took first place in the Closed Regional tournament last week and the Southern Level Tournament the week before.

Abbeville has a Louisiana top rated junior tennis player

Benjamin Koch of Abbeville is on a roll in the junior tennis circuit.
The 14-year-old, who is home schooled, has now won two back-to-back tennis tournaments.
This past weekend he won the USTA Closed Regional Tournament. He came in as the No. 2 seed and beat the No. 1 seed, Welsh Hotard, 7-6, 6-3.
Hotard and Koch teamed up to win the doubles match in the same tournament.
The week before, Koch won the USDA Southern Level I Regional Championship in Mississippi.
As of this week, Koch is the No. 1 ranked 14 year-old in the state of Louisiana and the third ranked in South, which includes eight states.
Koch was recently offered a full scholarship to John Newcombes Tennis Academy in New Braunfels, Texas.
. His parents are Robert and Emily Koch and his grandparents are Abbeville natives Allen and Clara Schriefer.
