Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Lafayette for Rodney James Schexnider, 77, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

Interment was in Abshire Cemetery in Kaplan.

Reverend John DeLeeuw will officiate the services.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 35 years Verna Landry Faulk Schexnider; one daughter, Charleen Schexnider LeMaire and her husband, Pat; one son, Kendall Schexnider and his wife, Terry; two step-daughters Debra Faulk Dore’ and her husband, Bitsy and Pam Faulk Cormier; two step-sons, Terrell Faulk and Bert Faulk and his wife, Cathy; ten grandchildren, Tori, Katy, Mitchell, Abby, Jaime, Jeremy, Micky, Penny, Lindsey and Crystal; three step-grandchildren, Jeramie, Josh and Jessica; and ten great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelier and Gladys Sonnier Schexnider; and one sister, Virgie Schexnider Nunez.

A native of Kaplan and resident of Lafayette for over 35 years Mr. Schexnider was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, great grand father and friend to all who knew him. He proudly served his country in the Korean War as a member of the United States Army. He was co-owner of S & L Diggin’ in Lafayette for over 25 years.

Mr. Schexnider enjoyed listening and dancing to cajun music and visiting with his friends at Pat’s Grocery. He was an animal lover who dearly loved his pets “Jacque” and “Peppy”. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Micky Cormier, Jeremy Dore’, Mitchell Schexnider, Bert Faulk, Terrell Faulk, and Pat LeMaire. Honorary pallbearers are Clarence Rogers, Bitsy Dore’, Jude Savoie and Jonas Kracher.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center 3 East, and Dr. Brian Granger for their kindness and loving care given to Mr. Schexnider during his time of need.
