Roberts Cove gearing up for Germanfest

ROBERTS COVE – The workers of the German Heritage Museum are busy preparing for Roberts Cove Germanfest 2008. They have taken down previous displays and have returned the many items to their owners. The museum would like to thank all who have been so generous with their family treasures.

There are several displays this year that museum officials are asking for help with.

Reiners, Scheufens and Schaffhausen families highlighted: These three families will be honored this year at the Roberts Cove Germanfest. The first meeting for this honor group was held on June 18 in the German Heritage Museum. The museum is striving to get any information about these families for this year’s Germanfest. The next meeting of the three family representatives will be held Wednesday, August 13 at 5 p.m. in the museum. All pictures and stories are to be turned in at this meeting.

Heirloom Christening dresses, etc.: Did you baptize your children, grandchildren and other family infants in the same christening dress? The museum will be featuring dresses and baptism certificates for one of the displays. Be sure to include who was baptized in these dresses, and also the stories about these heirlooms.

Board Games: Before television, much family enjoyment was had with board games. Board games were a hit with most families. Families prayed together and played together. Checkers, Monopoly, Chinese Checkers, Candyland and Chess were just a few. The museum would love to have these board games for this display. Are they still in the original boxes?

Purses: Another collection to be featured will be purses, or “pocket books” as they were called in the olden days. Little girls to old ladies – everybody carried a purse. The museum will also have a pictorial display of purses. Check albums for pictures. The museum would like four by six copies of grandmothers, mothers or anyone carrying a purse. This will be a unique display.

Deadline: The museum workers are ready to accept items now. So collect treasures and turn them in soon.

The Roberts Cove Germanfest will be held October 4 and 5, 2008.
