Woodley Pierre Hebert

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at a 3:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Maurice for Woodley Pierre Hebert, age 93, who died on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his residence in Maurice.
Entombment will be in St. Alphonsus Mausoleum.
Reverend O. Joseph Breaux, Pastor of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Johnica Hebert and Brady Comeaux. Giftbearers will be his grandchildren. The Eucharistic Minister will be Kimberly Schexnayder. Tammy Lynn Maturin, organist will sing, “On Eagles’ Wings”, “Shepherd Me, O’God”, “I Will Rise”, “Never Alone”, “J’irai la vour un jour” and “I Can Only Imagine”.
Survivors include his children, Robert “Bobby” Hebert and his wife Betty Benoit of Mire, John Hebert and his wife Deborah Foreman of Ridge, Shirley Comeaux and her husband, Harold “Kimo” Comeaux of Maurice, Aaron Hebert Sr. and his wife Christine Satchell of Maurice; sixteen grandchildren, Becky, Sandy, Kimberly, Randall, Rachel, Sam, Christina, Johnica, Blaine, Brian, Brady, Benny, Aaron Jr., Karon, Katherine (KK) and Alloyn; twenty-five great grandchildren, Jody, Brooke, Reba, Shelly, Ahna, Emma, Ethan, Landon, Heather, Hunter, Shawnee, Grayson, Ana Claire, Dustin, Josh, Brett, Jude, Kaylee, Caitlin, Evan, Slade, Caden, Karol Anne, Korissa, Kyle and one on the way; and five great-great grandchildren, Rayson, Kylie, Rebekah, Kayla and Clara; a sister, Una Hebert of Maurice and two brothers, Ivy Hebert of Maurice and Lee Hebert of Abbeville.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Ada Pellerin Hebert; one son, Stanley S. Hebert, Sr.; one grandchild, Jennifer Bower; and his parents, Althesus Hebert, Sr. and Eunice Simon Hebert; a sister, Edith Hebert; one brother, Althesus Hebert Jr. and an infant sister Enite.
Woodley Hebert was a native and lifelong resident of Maurice, Louisiana. He was stationed in Germany while serving in The United States Army during World War II. He was a cook during the War and was very proud. After he returned home, he married on January 25, 1947 to Ada Pellerin. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, The American Legion Post 69, Woodman of the World and VFW Post in Duson. In his younger days he worked in the fields growing cotton and other crops during the day and spent his nights as a bartender at the City Bar in Maurice. Later, he coached the Babe Ruth and Little League Baseball Teams in Maurice. In 1968, he went to work for the Lafayette Parish Sheriff Department and began his career under the leadership of Sheriff Carlo Listi as a jailor and later worked in the Civil Department under Sheriff Don Breaux. Mr. Hebert retired in 1988. He then continued to tend to his farmland and cattle. He enjoyed attending the 555 Anti Aircraft Artillery Reunions. He also loved a friendly game of Boureé, cherished family gatherings with barbecue and good food and was a big fan of the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals. Mr. Hebert was a devout catholic and loved attending church services.
Pallbearers will be Randall Hebert, Sam Hebert, John Hebert, Aaron Hebert Sr., Benny Comeaux and Blaine Comeaux. Honorary pallbearers are Bryan Sonnier, Earl Schexnayder, Nathan Ross, Mike Richard, Willie Perry, Mark Mouton, Brian Comeaux and Aaron Hebert, Jr.
A Rosary will be recited on Thursday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille’s SOUTHSIDE location by the Stanley S. Hebert, Sr. Council 8770 of Maurice, Knights of Columbus.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Thursday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until time of services.
